Brazil is raising its guard and tightening security ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
From an awareness campaign designed to foil terror plots to sharing intelligence and conducting security drills, the country is doing everything possible to boost security.
Edval Novaes, chief, Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC) said, “Worries do exist. Concerns about terrorist attacks have always existed for the Olympic Games, whether this time or in past years, and each host country has worked on it as well.”
“So we have learned so much from the experience of these countries’ command centers for use at the Rio Olympics, and we have achieved significant results over the past three years,” he added.
With the games set to start on August 5, Brazil is anticipating as many as 600,000 foreign visitors.
The South American country intends to deploy tens of thousands of troops in Rio’s streets to ensure the safety of athletes, officials, residents and visitors.
